- Alma Hazel Cavender, 90, of Charleston died Thursday evening, Jan. 25, 2007, in Thomas Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side.
Alma was a retired cook from Bonham Elementary School with 19 years of service and was a member of Kanawha Two Mile Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Luther T. Cavender, in 1969. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Lawrence and Dovie Mae Casto Parsons; stepmother, Odessa Parsons; brothers, Howard and Guy Parsons; sister, Wilma Edens; and stepsister, Roberta Kittrell.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Naomi Cavender of Richwood, Ohio, John and Ruth Cavender of Rockmart, Ga., and Steve and Sue Cavender and Charles and Victoria Cavender, all of Charleston; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and James Keiffer of Charleston; brothers, Virgil Parsons of Rutland, Ohio, Rudy Parsons of Dunbar and Roger Parsons of Charleston; sisters, Reba Burdette of Poca, Trexie Starcher of Charleston, Grace Miller of Nitro, Shirley Casdorph of Tempe, Ariz., Sue Rakes of Logan, Utah, and Linda Padgett of Morgantown; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at Cunningham-Parker-Johnson Funeral Home, Charleston, with the Rev. Robert R. Fields officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hills Garden of Memories, Pocatalico.
Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
