The Dawson Funeral Home Memorial Obituary:

MIDLAND, PA – VELMA J. McDADE passed away at 4:07 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the Beaver Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Beaver Falls, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. McDade, who resided on Smith's Ferry Road in Midland, was 84.

Velma was born in Marietta, OH on March 10, 1927, the daughter of the late George and Erma Ferra Burge. She had been a homemaker.

Surviving her at home is her husband, Gerald G. McDade, Sr., whom she married on Oct.4, 1943.

Velma is also survived by her loving family, daughter Pamela Vuckovich and her husband, Michael of Ohioville, and son Gerald G. McDade, Jr., also of Ohioville.

Two grandchildren, Marc and Ryan, survive as well as three great-grandchidlren: Nicole, Evin and Ashley.

There is also a great-great-granddaughter, Kelsey.

Velma will also be missed by her sister, Pauline Mullins of GA, and her three brothers: Carroll Burge and his wife, Mildred; John Burge and his wife, Betty; and Edwin Burge and his wife, Carolyn, all of Millwood, WV.

In addition to her parents, Velma was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Zelda McDade.

Friends may visit at the Dawson Funeral Home on Sunday, where the family will be present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:30 p.m. Monday.
Burial will take place at Shadow Lawn Memory Gardens.

BIDWELL, Ohio - Marguerite Hereford Walker, 83, of Bidwell, died Wednesday, October 3, 2001 at Holzer Medical Center.
Born April 2, 1918, in Mason County, she was a daughter of the late Virgil E. Hereford and Rose Dabney Hereford.
She was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School and Holzer School of Nursing.
She was a nurse at Holzer Hospital and retired from Holzer Clinic, Gallipolis. During retirement, she worked as a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross bloodmobile of Gallia County, and made wedding cakes professionally for several years.
She married Denver A. Walker on September 15, 1940 at Ashland Kentucky, and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1992.
To this union were born two sons, Jack Ronald (Lois) Walker of Lake City, Florida, and J. Roger (Dixie) Walker of Bidwell; two daughters, Mary (Hank) Thompson of Bidwell, and Rosalee Walker of Bidwell; and three grandsons, Jonathan Walker of Pickerington, Ohio, J. Ryan Walker of Lake City, Florida, and Ryan Q. Ashworth of Bidwell.
She is also survived by a brother, Virgil E. (Pearl) Hereford, Jr. of Southside; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George W. Hereford and R. William Hereford; and a sister, Dymple M. Snyder.
Services will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 7, 2001 in McCoy-Moore Funeral Home, Vinton, Ohio, with Pastor Michael Lynn officiating. Burial will follow in Vinton Memorial Park.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, October 6, 2001 from 5-8 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Gallia County Chapter, 444 Second Avenue, Gallipolis, Ohio 45631, or to a church or charity of choice.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 40 years, Harold L. Carnes.

Wanda is survived by a daughter, Dinah and husband, Jud Ham, of Charleston; grandson, Chris and wife, Jennifer Ham, of Morgantown; great-grandchildren, Garrett and Ethan Ham; and one sister, Eula Pauley of Morgantown.

Graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 11, at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney.

Emma was born to Enoch and Barbara Casto. She was third of four children: Ed, Mary, Emma and Viola. She was a pioneer who came by covered wagon, with her parents and siblings, to Oregon from Kingston, MO. On the way, they stayed awhile in Oklahoma and Kansas.
She married Robert Edgar Cooper on December 23, 1897. They had one child, Harry William Cooper born March 4, 1899.
She liked to fish in the Tilton and Cowlitz Rivers.

Wayne E. Hatcher, 88, of the Tug Fork community, Ripley, WV, passed away February 4, 2012 in Elder-care of Ripley, following a brief illness.
He was born June 25, 1923, in Kentuck, WV, a son of the late Rosco N. and Icie Belle (Williams) Hatcher. Four brothers including a twin brother and six sisters also preceded him in death.
He was a retired farmer and retired from Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation, Ravenswood, and was a member of United Steelworkers Union, Local #5668. Prior to Kaiser, he worked at Goodyear Rubber in Akron, OH and for DuPont at the Belle, WV Plant.
He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse, Forrest Home, and was a graduate of Ripley High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mabel Maxine (Jones) Hatcher; son and his wife Steve and Melissa Hatcher of Ripley; daughters and sons-in-law, Vera M. and Thornton Smith of Parkersburg, and Velma "Mackie" and Tom Good-son of Ripley; grandchildren, Lisa and (Kelly) Snyder of Belmont, Lori and (Jeff) Renner of Arvilla, Lynn and (Dave) Allen of Bear, DE, Tommy and (Bri) Goodson of Ravenswood, Whitney and (Marc) Scholl of Ripley, Kendra and (Brandon) Hersman of Evans, Chris and (Caroline) Smith of Conover, NC, Dave and (Jodi) Smith of Rockport, and Phil Smith of Vienna, and 15 great grandchildren.
Service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, WV, with the Rev. Kelly Snyder officiating. Burial will follow in Fairplain Cemetery, Ripley. Visitation wasfrom 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Monday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to the Salt Hill Community Church, c/o Patty Hall, 66 Juniper Grove Drive, Cottageville, WV.

R. L. Pickering, 63, machinist for I.I. DuPont de Nemours plant at Belle, died early yesterday morning at his home, 305 Randolph Street, after a short illness.
Surviving are his wife, Nora M. Pickering; two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Staab of Charleston and Mrs. W. O. Casto of St. Albans; two sons, H. H. of Charleston and Layton of Morgantown; a brother, Miller M. Pickering of Huntington.
The Bartlett mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Cinder block building built by Albert Wolfe in 1931. Lester Boggess Jr. and his brother-in-law, Whopual Withrow, owned the business about 1953. In May of 1954 Lester Boggess Sr. bought it and ran it until 1982, 27 years. In those years he and Grandma ran a service station, sold dry good, toys, lamps, and had a grease rack. It was also a Greyhound bus stop. They even lived in the basement for a few years.

Rollie Clayton Goddard, 92, of Red House passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at CAMC Teays Valley Hospital following a long illness. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. Clayton was a retired welder for Fike Chemical in Nitro and was a dedicated farmer and an avid hunter and fisherman. Born September 4, 1918, in Red House, he was the son of the late Stanley Goddard and Viola Jones Goddard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Lillian Marie Parsons Goddard; a daughter, Connie Adkins; three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his children, Dolores Barnett of Lockbourne, Ohio, and William Bill Goddard, Roger Goddard and Janet Goddard, all of Red House; son-in-law, Gary Adkins; grandchildren, Stevie Barnett, Amie Goddard, Jamie Goddard, Kimberly Goddard and Richie Adkins; and special caregivers, Steve Harless, Sarah Gingerich, Kim Pauley, Karinda Goddard, and Joan Joyce. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 13, at Raynes Funeral Home, Buffalo, with Pastor Larry Covert officiating. Burial will follow in Shiloah Church Cemetery, Red House, with military rites. The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
