Fred Ray Harper, 94, of Falling Rock, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 11, 2013, at Meadowbrook Acres Nursing Center, Charleston, following a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva M. Harper; parents, George Leon and Eulah Edna (Noel) Harper; brother, Early Blaine Harper; and sisters, Mabel Jackson, Minnie Payne, Camma Edna Armstead, Artie Alma Harper, Opha Susan Harper, Wanda Lee Harper, Audra Myrl Armstead Rhodes, Mary Beatrice Coleman and Freda Katherine Schoolcraft.
Fred, a World War II Army veteran, was the former owner/manager of Harper's Grocery, Falling Rock. He is survived by his sister, Ruby Mae Coe of Walton, and many nieces and nephews.
Fred's funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, at Matics Funeral Home, Clendenin, with Pastor Clarence Deel officiating and American Legion Post No. 61 performing military rites. Burial will be at Elk Hills Memorial Park, Big Chimney. His family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at the funeral home.
