The Staats family were early settlers to Jackson Co. West Virginia and descended from Pioneer Staats family in New Amsterdam (New York) in the early 1600's. They are of Dutch descent. Hurst Grew up in Kansas. He married Eva Smail 26 June 1918 in Kansas. They moved to Montana and farmed.
