Another family of Boswells, connected with the Squires people, came from Rockbridge County, Virginia, to Mason, at an early day. A daughter, Jane, married John Carter, who purchased land and settled about seventy-five years ago. It is related that he used to walk barefoot to the Court House to settle his taxes, so economical did he have to be while saving money to pay for his land. The children: John, James, Charles, George, William, Julia, Susan and Tom. John married Elizabeth Douglass, they had five boys and one girls. James married Annie Mariah Flowers, they had five boys and four girls. Tom married Florence Evans, they had five boys and one girl. Charles died young. George located at Reedy, West Virginia, and spent his life there, a good doctor. Susan married Charles Kay, they had one son. Parents and son all died young. William married Marget Greer, they had one girl. William died. Some time after he died his widow married Charles McCown.
