KING James M. KING, the subject of this sketch, was born in Jackson County, Va., now West Va., July 21, 1839, and departed this life April 17, 1922, aged 82 years, 8 months and 26 days. He was united in marriage with Agnes E. HUGHES, who preceded him to the glory world about 33 years ago. To this union were born seven children, four boys and three girls. Two of the boys finished life's journey before him, Willie, who died in infancy, and Benjamin F., who died in the prime of manhood. Those left to mourn their loss are: Mrs. Ella REED, of Charleston, Mrs. Lillie E. COSSIN, of Given, Mrs. Nellie M. SMITH, of Pt. Pleasant, John E. KING, of Charleston and Charles D. KING, of Given. He enlisted in Co. K, 11th Regiment of West Virginia Infantry on the 14th day of August, 1862, and served throughout the war, being honorably discharged at Richmond, Va. June 17, 1865. He was a brave, true and loyal soldier and what he gave to his country will be better understood if we consider that he was with GRANT throughout that last, long campaign leading through the Wilderness up to the surrender of Lee at Appomattox. But one more of the thinning ranks of those who wore the Blue has answered the roll call. He was converted and united with the Moss Chapel class of the M. E. Church, South, about 30 years ago and has left the evidence that he has gone to dwell in that house not made with hands, eternal and in the heavens. The funeral was preached at the home by Rev. J. W. GARRISON from the 6th and 7th verses of the 12th chapter of Ecclesiastes. He was laid to rest in the cemetery at Angerona by the side of his wife there among the scenes of his childhood to await the final resurrection of the dead.
