  Notes	Samary S Sherman Deed to L L Rector and Steptoe Rector This indenture made this fifth day of November 1856 between Samary S Sherman, widow of Isaac B Sherman deceased of the one part and LL Rector and Steptoe Rector of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Samary S Sherman for and in consideration of the sum of five hundred and fifty dollars good and lawful money of the United Stated to be paid by the said LL Rector and Steptoe Rector as follows to wit Two hundred dollars on or before the first day of March 1857 and Three hundred and fifty dollars on or before thr first day of March 1858 and fifty dollars more on the said land (provided the said Samary S Sherman redeems thr two hundred and fifty acres of land sold to E L Rotty Have granted bargained and sold and by these presents do grant bargain and sell unto the said lL Rector and Steptoe Rector and unto their heirs and asigns forever a certain lot piece or parcel of land situate lying and being on the Ohio River in Jackson County being a part of the land owned by Isaac B Sherman in his life time and containing abour one and thirty acres of land by the same more or less. To have and to hold the said lot piece or parcel of land with the appurtenances unto the said LL Rector and Steptoe Rector their heirs and asigns forever and unto the only proper use and behoof of them the said LL Rector and Steptoe Rector their heirs and assigns forever and the said Samary S Sherman the said lot piece or parcel of land and premises hereby granted or indented so to be with the appurtenances unto the said LL Rector and Steptoe Rector their heirs and asigns against he interest in the said land of her the said Samary S Sherman as provided by the will of her late husband Isaac B Sherman will warrant and forever defend. In witness whereof the said party had hereunto set her hand and affixed her seal the say and year first above written. ~~~ Obit Mrs. Samary Stedman Sherman, died at her home, Sherman, Washington, January 30, 1898, in the 93rd year of her life, from infirmities incident to old age. She was born in Palmer, Mass., Nov. 4th, 1805 of Puritan parentage. Her mother's maiden name was Cargill, a lineal descendent of Rev. Donald Cargill, who was executed in 1684, at the cross of Edinburg, because of his religious principles. She migrated with her parents in 1816 from Mass., crossing the Allegheny mountains in wagons, and settled in Chester, Meigs, county, Ohio. She was thrice married--first to Lyman Stedman in 1823, who died in 1828, leaving her with three children--to David DeFord, in 1832 who died in 1836, leaving one child--to Isaac B. Sherman, in 1839, who died in 1852. Four children resulted from this last union. She is survived by three of her children:- Lyman Stedman, of Brown's Island, West.Va., Amanda Sherman Widmer, of Lipscomb, Texas and Geo. W. Sherman, of Sherman, Washington and numerous grandchildren down to the fourth generation. She removed to Kansas with her three youngest children in 1870, and from there to her last earthly home in Eastern Washington, in 1880.
