  Notes	Dr H H Staats, Surgeon, Dies at 8 Dr Harlan Herbert Staats, 68, prominent West Virginia surgeon and founder of Staats hospital, Washington St, W., died yesterday morning in a Huntington hospital following a long illness. A pioneer resident of the state, he was born on Mill creek, near Ripley. After graduating from the Barnes Medical college at St Louis, MO., he practiced a year in Ripley and then went to Spencer, where he organized a hospital which he conducted until he entered the army in World War I. He was honorably discharged with the rank of captain. He organized the hospital here in 1923. Dr Staats was a 32nd degree Mason, member of Meni Kedern Shrine and the Knights of Pythias. 1944

To this union were born the following five children, Katherine, born August 1, 1902; Beverly Waugh, born May 23, 1905; Elizabeth, born July 11, 1908; Charles Edgar, born December 9, 1909; Harlan Herbert, born October 8, 1917. Dr Harlan Staats was in service during the recent World War. He held the rand of Captain in the Medical corps of the Unites States Army. Dr Staats is one of the best surgeons in West Virginia. He has charge of the Roane County hospital, which is situated at Spencer, West Virginia.
