Death followed a 10-week's illness resulting from a heart attack.        Mr. BROWNELL, oldest son of the late George W. and Susan HOYT BROWNELL, was born September 1, 1861, at Ripley Landing and spent his entire life there. In (14 July) 1896 he was united in marriage to Mary Elizabeth SOMMERS, and to this union two children were born, Harold and Phyllis BROWNELL, all three of whom survive and were at home during his illness and death.        Mr. BROWNELL was a member of one of the oldest residential families of Jackson County, his ancestors having come here from New York in 1844. They purchased land where the BROWNELL home now stands, from Bushrod WASHINGTON, a relative of George WASHINGTON, who with his brother, had formerly surveyed it and the surrounding territory. The land was cleared and a log house was built on a beautiful site overlooking the Ohio river. The present home is located on the same spot and was greatly cherished by Mr. BROWNELL, who spent his entire 80 years in the old homestead.        Besides his widow and two children, Mr. BROWNELL is survived by a granddaughter, Juanita BROWNELL; one brother, Lewis BROWNELL, of Kanauga, Ohio; two nephews, Walton BROWNELL of Kanauga, and Harry BROWNELL, of Racine, Ohio; a niece, Mrs. Ray CARRIER, of Detroit, Michigan; and a cousin, Charles Brownell STOUT, of Pittsburgh, Pa. Four sisters, Nellie, Myrtle and Elfa BROWNELL, and Mrs. Lora BRADFORD, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, preceded him in death.        After a short service at the home early Tuesday afternoon, funeral services were held at the Ravenswood Methodist church at 2 p.m., with Rev. CUMBERLEDGE officiating. Interment was made in the Ravenswood cemetery with Vail mortuary in charge of arrangements. (Jackson Herald, Fri., 16 Jan 1942)
