    • Archie A Casto, 78, of Evans, and Lloyd E Stephens, 67 of Cottageville died Wednesday afternoon when the pickup truck they were traveling in collided with a tractor-trailer on State Route 56 and State Route 4, near Mechanicburg, Ohio. Mr Casto was born in Evans, September 24, 1901, the son of the late James T and Minnie Reynolds Casto. As a teenager, he delivered oil well supplies in Jackson and Roane counties. In the early 1920's, using horses, dump wagons and scrapers, he was instrumental in building old US Route 33 through Evans and constructing many of the Mill Creek bridges. He spent many years as a farmer. In the 1940's he worked for Pinnel and Post, logging timber between Ripley and Spencer. Suring the 1940's and 50's he was a trucker, buying and selling horses and cattle. When the Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation was being constructed, he served as a foreman for various contractors. He also worked as a foreman for Harlow Lime and State Construction. He was a partner of the Casto Funeral Home with his son, James 1953-1956. Survivors include wife, Laura Donhew Casto; sons, James W of Evans, A. Eugene of Akron, Ohio, Harrison L of West Memphis, Arkansas, brother O. J. Casto of Evans, sisters Permelia Cox of Middleport, Ohio. Marie Mose of East Liverpool, Ohio, Freeda Pringle of Dunbar, Geraldine Parsons and Virginia Sayre, of Evans; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. One brother, George, preceded him in death. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 P.M. at the Casto Funeral Home with the Rev. Gerald Sayre and the Rev, Raymond Skeen officiating. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery (3 Oct 1979)
