Oreta M. Pitchford - Parkersburg News, The/Sentinel - (May/30/2006)
Oreta Mae Pitchford, 87, of Vienna died May 29, 2006, at the Arbors in Marietta.
Oreta was born Oct. 8, 1918, in Ripley, a daughter of the late Dr. Oshel C. and Ora C. Staats.
Oreta graduated from Ripley High School and The Charleston School of Commerce. While she has not been active for many years, she was a member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Vienna and before that, the Calvary United Methodist Church in Ripley.
Survivors include one son, Stephen L. Pitchford and his wife, Ann, of Vienna; one grandson, Darren L. Pitchford of Parkersburg; one sister, Eileen Vickers of Raleigh, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Oreta was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell D. Pitchford, whom she married on Oct. 20, 1938; an infant daughter; and two brothers.
A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the Fairplain Cemetery. Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, is in charge of arrangements.
While Oreta enjoyed good health for most of her life, she did suffer from Alzheimer’s in her latter years. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 508 Columbia Ave., Williamstown, WV 26187.
