Abraham Staats. Came to Jackson (then Kanawha) County from Harrison county about 1800. Was living in Harrison county in 1795 when his daughter, Ann, married Jacob Starcher. Was residing in Hampshire county in 1782, 6 people in family; had removed to Harrison county by 1784. In 1810 Mason county census, he was aged 45+, and there were 5 males and 2 females in his family; in 1820 there were also 5 males and 2 females. He was born in New Jersey in 1750 and died at Evans, Jackson county in 1826, from the effects of wounds given him by a bear. An article in the Jackson Herald by a descendant, Mrs Corinne (Staats) Fisher, of Ripley, states that he was a soldier in the Revolution. His wife was Anna King and their children were: Cornelius, Abraham Jr, Elijah, Jacob, Anna, Catherine, Susana, Sarah, and Rebecca. Anna King Staats died in 1811 and Abraham married Sarah Tilghman, by whom he had the following children: Hannah, William and John. Abraham Staats had lived at Ft Boreman (Parkersburg) for several years before he came to Jackson (then Kanawha) county.

Isaac Staats, who came to Warth's Bottom about 1805 may have been a brother and Daniel and Elijah Staats of Grant District are said to have been brothers of Abraham.
