Parkersburg News - Murder is Hinted in Disappearance of Cox
Man who has been missing since Sunday has not been traced yet.
Believed the foul play was done and reward has been offered.
Three of the person he was with are being held in the county jail.
Fearing that their brother, JM Cox, who is said to be a resident of that section of Wood county near Belleville, had been murdered, induced his brothers ER Cox and CP Cox who are located at 212 1/2 Ann Street this city, to offer a reward of $50 for the recovery of the body. According to reports that have been circulated about the city, JM Cox, with a party consisting of two other men and a woman, had been on a drinking bout in the Ohio river near Warthmore and during the affair Cox is alleged to have disappeared.
Charles Buck Johnson, Louis Rose and Mabel Johnson, the men and woman who are said to have been with Cox during the party have been arrested and are now in the county jail where they will be held on a charge of having had liquor in their possession. They were arrested on the house boat where they have b been staying, near the upper end of Neal's Island, yesterday afternoon by State Troopers. The formal charge against is violation of liquor laws, but it was intimated last night that a more serious one may be place against them, following the investigation of the disappearance of Cox.
