Thomas (called Orphan or the Younger) MEADOR
1638 - 1661 (~ 26 years)-
Name Thomas (called Orphan or the Younger) MEADOR Born Between 1635 and 1638 Virginia, USA [1] Gender Male Died 1661 [1] Notes - "Our Meador Families in Colonial America" by Victor P Meador & Bernal M Meador:
1658, Thomas sold to James Haire "25 acres of land, being part of the land that was given unto me by my father, Thomas Meades, deceased, and to my brother (name missing). This confirms his parentage and that he had a brother, who is given in the Father's will as John Meador. This 1658 deed was signed by Thomas witha unique mark, a cross with barred ends, a signature found nowhere else in the county records.
Records of the distribution of the estate of the elder Thomas are missing, but Thomas did own rights to two grants on Hoskins Creek, on the south side of the Rappahannock River. The first was for 320 acres for the transportation of sevn people to the colony, recorded 3 June 1663. This 320 acre grant became the property of John Meador, who sold it in 1679, and the deed states the grant was to Thomas Meador, father of said John Meador, confirming parentage. The second grant was for 450 acres, also near the head of Hoskins creek. Thomas Meador, Sr was the third owner and it descended to his son, although it was not mentioned in the will, probably because the transaction had not been completed at that time. The two grants lie side by side on the south side of Hoskins creek, and share a common boundary.
He was known as "the Orphan" and as Thomas the younger, indicating his father was Thomas. The only other Thomas Meador in the area at the time was the son of Ambrose, who did not have a son named Thomas, therefore this Thomas must have been the son of Thomas, born in England, the immigrant.
