The first records of this name are in the headright grants by the Governor of the Jamestown Colony, a Thomas Meades surrendered his headright grant of 50 acres to John Gater of Elizabeth City.
Lancaster Co ,1853, he purchased 700 a from William Underwood - next to Milleck Creek, on modern maps, Islington Landing.
1653, Thomas Meads sold two cows to Minor Doeders.
6 April 1654, Thomas Meads was appointed constable, oath administered by James Williamson.
Will written 5 March 1654/55, entered for probate on 6/6/1655 - names daughter Mary, sons Tho & John, daughters Margaret & Joyce & Anne, names wife exectrix.
6 Aug 1655, son Thomas petitions court to have William Underwood appointed his guardian. Ambrose Meador was one of the 4 men who appraised estate and one of 4 who were appointed to divide it. Ambrose could have been brother or cousin, he was much the same age as Thomas.
