    Notes

    • In "Valentin Pfost/Post and Some of His Descendants" by Doris Poinsett,

she mentions that Isaac Jr died just a year after the marriage, and in his father, Isaac, Sr's will, dated 6/17/1853, it states: "Elizabeth Pfost the wife of Isaac Pfost Decd . . .then Elizabeth Pfost to hav one hundred dollars more provided she should liv. . .", which indicates that she was probably ill or at least in poor health, possibly with pregnancy complications. The 1900 census shows George W was born 8/1853, but that could be wrong, he may have been born in 1852 or in a different month. It would be nice to have a death date for Elizabeth.

In the 1860 Jackson countycensus, there are 2 male Pfost boys who appear to be orphans. One, GW, age 7, is living with Tapley Garnes at # 407-386 (census date 6/22/1860), and 6 houses further, at # 413-382 (census date 6/23/1860), there is a 7 year old Washg Pfost living with Alpheus (Elias) Foglesong - brother of Elizabeth. I doubt that there were two boys of the same age and similar names orphaned in Jackson Co in 1860. In 1870, Elias is found in MO, and since his youngest, Martha, was born about 1867 in VA, it would appear he didn't move to MO until after her birth. The young Pfost child is nowhere to be found, but at the age of 14 or older, he may have chosen to stay in WV, and was not counted at all. He may have been working on different farms on different days and just missed or not been considered to be 'living' there.

His childrens' birth records show that GW is George Washington, which is further evidence that the two boys are one and the same.

This seems enough to place this George Washington Pfost as the son of Isaac Jr and Elizabeth.
