  Notes	Minnie died died in 1920, two years after the death of Charles. Their children, Elsie Mable, William H. and Charles Jr., were first placed in the guardianship of John Sheets, but later placed in guardianship of O.B. Atkinson. Their son William Henderson Shaffer eventually ended up living with his Aunt, Maria Evelyne Sheets and her husband Wilson Jones. The following article appeared in The Charleston Daily Mail newspaper on Sept 13, 1920, shortly after the death of Minnie. GUARDIANSHIP CHANGED On application of John Sheets the county court released him from the guardianship of Elsie Mabel Shaffer, William Henderson Shaffer and Charles Shaffer, minors and appointed in his place O. B. Atkinson. The appointee gave $500 bond, with J. A. Atkinson as surety.
