Rodney C. "Whistle" Casto, 84, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sept. 3, 2006.
He was born in Kenna, Jackson County, son of the late Boyd Cleo Casto and Verna Polsley Casto, on May 21, 1922. He was a 1941 graduate of Ripley High School, a veteran of World War II and retired from Charleston Wholesale Furniture Company. He was a charter member of Cross Lanes Bible Church, faithfully serving as a Deacon, Treasurer, Trustee, and Usher. Rodney never met a stranger and always shared his faith with others, through how he lived his life and through his actions and his words.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jewell Kiser Casto; sisters, Geneva McGrew and Josephine Doig; and brother, Roderick "Boots" Casto.
Survivors include daughters, Julia Painter and husband, Gary, of Hurricane, Carolyn Hall and husband, John, also of Hurricane, and Vicki Casto of Cross Lanes, who lovingly and unselfishly watched over her father since her mother's passing 25 years ago; sons, Gary Casto and wife, Christina, of Kenna, and Dana Casto and wife, Kelly, of Roanoke, Va.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at Cross Lanes Bible Church with Pastor Dave Buckley and Pastor Mark Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes. Viewing will be at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Rd., Cross Lanes, from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, and one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Cross Lanes Bible Church Mission Fund, 5442 Big Tyler Rd., Cross Lanes, WV 25313.
