KENNA - Ray Casto, 89 of Kenna passed away on Friday, July 2, 2004.
He was born April 23, 1915 at Belgrove, a son of the late Theodore and Maude Fields Casto. He was the last survivor of 9 children. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dicie A. Skeen Casto.
During World War II, Ray worked at Carbide and following the war, he worked at The Harley Davidson Motorcycle Shop on Virginia Street in Charleston, W.Va.
In 1954 he went into business for himself as Casto Motorcycle Sales. Ray and his wife, Dicie, operated the business for 20 years. Casto Motorcycle Sales is currently owned by a son-in-law and daughter, Bill and Dorothy Fowler, and employees some of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Old Capitol City Motorcycle Club, which sponsored many charity events in the community.
Ray loved the old time country and gospel music and was a self-taught musician playing several instruments - the banjo, mandolin and guitar.
Ray is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Bill Fowler of Charleston; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Helen Casto of Weston; and daughter, Kathern Casto of Cross Lanes. He had 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
