Dear Mother;
Received your letter of the 4th yesterday. Always glad to get good news from home and to know you are all getting along O.K. It helps to keep my spirits up while "over here". I sure envy you that nice weather. We haven't had any real cold weather but still having plenty of rain. The sun looked out for a few moments this afternoon but it looked rather moldy after behing behind the clouds for so long.
You wanted to know just what I'm doing. Thought I'd told you that long ago. This is a storage station for medical supplies. Have six warehouses about 500 by 60 feet. The supplies are shipped here in large quanities (sic) and then distributed to other stations. my work is in the medicine house and my duties are to see that everything goes to the right place. At present German prisoners are doing the work. As it looks now some of us will be here for some time yet. I am asking for a seven day leave the first of April. Think by that time the weather will be nice. Expect to visit Paris and some of the better parts of France. This is a very poor country here. They have some real nice buildings but most everything looks old and dilapidated. The houses are all of stone and stone walls are as common as rail fences in West Virginia, representing a great deal of labor in days gone by. Large families live in small apartments - dress very common and mostly all wear wooden shoes. They are all great wine drinkers, even the women when they come to work bring their bottle of wine.
