Mrs. Birdie Tolley
Mrs. Birdie Tolley, 82, of 95 Dunbar Avenue, Dunbar died Wednesday at Thomas Mmorial Hospital after a short illness.
She attended Calvary United Methodist Church in Dunbar and lived in Dunbar 44 years. Mrs. Tolley was a native of Roane County and formerly lived in Jackson County.
Surviving: sons, Ova H., Dunbar postmaster, Carl of Alexandria, Va., Ralph of Ledyard, Conn.; daughters Mrs. Edith White of Dunbar, Mrs. Gertrude Casto and Mrs. Maxine Withrow both of St. Albans, half-sisters, Mrs. Winnie Cottrell and Mrs. Ann Taylor, both of Charleston.
Service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Keller Funeral Home with the Rev. Donzel Wease officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park in Dunbar. Friends may call after noon today.

I did not know that MaMa's name was Alice Birdie until I saw her birth certificate when my father, Ova, was settling her estate when she died. MaMa must not have liked her name because she didn't tell anyone her real name. She went by the name of Birdie all her life.
