  Notes	From Eric Jamieson ejam@shaw.ca: I am living in North Vancouver, Canada, and researching the 1958 collapse the Second Narrows Bridge (now called the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing) in which 19 men were killed. Otmer Carpenter, born in West Virginia, was the superintendent on the bridge (he had nothing to do with its collapse). He was an interesting man and was nicknamed “High” for his love of heights. He was therefore known as High Carpenter. According to another engineer on the bridge, Otmer was from West Virginia and he worked all over the U.S. building bridges for various companies. As well, he worked in British Columbia for Dominion Bridge. I know he was about 80 in 1963, which would place his birth around the same date as your Otmer Carpenter, and was still working as a superintendent; then, on the Port Mann Bridge just outside of Vancouver. He then returned to the U.S. and had a home in South Los Angeles. He was disfigured quite badly from an electrical accident that occurred on a dam somewhere in the U.S. prior to his B.C. work experience.
