  Notes	The Jackson Herald Ripley, WV Tuesday, February 8, 2011 Jackson County, W.Va. —  COTTAGEVILLE –  Mary Patricia “Pat” Prowse, 84, of Cottageville departed this world on February 2, 2011 at her home. Pat was born December 2, 1926 in Ripley, the daughter of John Herman Rhodes, Sr. and Helen Elizabeth Hood. She was a 1944 graduate of Ripley High School.   She graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing on September 14, 1947.   She worked as Head RN for pediatric department in Washington DC hospital.   She was the recipient of Golden Horseshoe Award.   She worked for several years at the law firm of Miller and Chevelle in Washington, DC.   She received Hometown Hero Award given for her love and devotion to animals.     She managed the Jackson County Animal Shelter in Cottageville for 30 years, where she began as a volunteer.     She wrote Pandora’s Column in the local newspaper for 25 years keeping the public informed weekly about the Jackson County Animal Shelter.   She served for several years on the Housing Authority Board, and she taught yoga for several years.   She was awarded the Outstanding Citizen Award for her service to the community.   She was a member of Kith’n’Hills Theatre Group and a member of Greenhills Country Club. Surviving are her nieces, Jennifer Lynn Rhodes Parker of Cottageville, Audra Danielle Parker of Washington and Kalin Marie Bigler of Cottageville; nephews John Patrick Rhodes of Cottageville and Matthew David Bigler of Cutler, OH; former sister-in-law Tina Perkins of Washington. In addition to her parents, her husband, Walter Prowse of Cottageville; and brothers Fredrick Rhodes and John H. Rhodes, both of Cottageville, preceded her in death. Memorial service is 2 p.m., Thursday, February 10, at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood, with Pastor Scott Mapes officiating. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Thursday, February 10, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter, Cottageville, WV 25239.
