He attended the common schools at Locust Grove, Carleton College, Racine, Ohio and graduated from Oldham & Hawe's Business College, Pomeroy, Ohio in 1869. Mr. Hogg taught school and was employed as a bookkeeper 1870-1873. He studied the law and wads admitted to the bar in 1875 and started pratice in Point Pleasant at that time. Charles Edgar Hogg was county superintendent of the free schools of Mason County 1875-1879. He was elected as a Democrat to the Fiftieth Congress, March 4, 1887-March 3, 1889. In 1888 he resumed his law pratice in Point Pleasant and became affiliated with the Republican Party in 1900. From 1906 until 1913 Mr. Hogg was the dean of the College of Law at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. Charles Edgar Hogg died in Point Pleasant, West Virginia June 14, 1935 and is buried in Lone Oak Cemetery in the same town.
