      Johnny Hoyt Carpenter, Jr., 86 - Gandeeville
      Johnny Hoyt Carpenter, Jr., 86, of Gandeeville, West Virginia died August 5, 2012 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg, West Virginia.
      He was born May 8, 1926 in Fairplain, West Virginia a son of the late Johnny Hoyt & Beulah Cobb Carpenter. He was an ironworker for Welding Inc. in Charleston, West Virginia for many years and formerly worked as a coal miner. He was a member of the Gandeeville United Methodist Church and VFW Post 5783 in Spencer, West Virginia. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a veteran of World War Two and Korea and received a Purple Heart for his service.
      He is survived by his wife, Maxine Garnet Ellis Carpenter; a son and daughter-in-law, James “Jimmy” and Betty Carpenter of Gandeeville; three grandchildren, Nicholas, Jennifer and Jamie; five great-grandchildren, Zack, Kenny, Payton, Arianna and Zander; five sisters, Irene Harris of Cicerone, West Virginia, Maxine Lilly of Hardeeville, South Carolina, Erline Tolley of Elizabeth, West Virginia, and Octavia “Toots” Cox and Mary Lou Hargus, both of Harmony; and one brother, Gerald Carpenter, also of Harmony.
      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jetty, George and Ferris; and a sister, Pauline.
      Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home, Spencer, with Revs. John Lowe and Jerry Malona officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Eventide Cemetery, Spencer. Visiting hours are from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
