George Kerns

RITTMAN -- George E. Kerns, 80, of Rittman, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at WRH Health System.
He was born July 26, 1926, in Parkersburg, W.Va., to William W. and Leona (Snyder) Kerns and lived in Brunswick before moving to Rittman in 1987.
He was employed at the L.D. Kichler Lighting Co. for 18 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations, and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7971 in Copley and Bethany Friends Church in Wadsworth.
Surviving are sons, George (Valerie) Kerns of Deltona, Fla., and William (Darla) Kerns of Creston; daughters, Alice (Scott) Slifko of Rittman, Mary (Charles) Monroe of Brunswick and Joyce (Charles) Smith of Nashville, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, James Kerns of Eustis, Fla., Keith Kerns of Charlotte, N.C., Donald Kerns of Seattle, Wash., and Clyde Kerns of Kirtland, Wash.; and a sister, Ann Pursley of Ripley, W.Va.
His wife, Edith Kerns, died Nov. 9, 2001. A brother, Raymond Kerns, and sisters, Betty Holcomb and Laura Belle Rakin, also died previously.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m., at Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Drive, Rittman, with Pastors Bill Powell and Creed Pursley officiating. Burial will be at Eastlawn Memory Gardens in Brunswick.
