      Mr Baker's Illness Fatal
Mr D. M. Baker, a prominent merchant and postmaster at Sandyville, W Va, passed away at his home in Sandyville last Sunday evening at 9:50.
He was born at Leroy, Jackson County, W Va, September 19, 1846, being the son of Eliah B and Nancy Baker, whose maiden name was Nancy Wolf. He grew to manhood near Leroy and on January 20, 1872, was married to Miss Mary E Johnson. To his happy union were born seven children, John M, M Della, Nan O, Greek B, James E, Ida B and Charles E Baker.
He was a prominent member of the IOOF and in good standing. He rose rapidly in the mercantile business and was one of Sandyville's most influential citizens. He was a man of much native talent and was very unlike some of his fellows in some respects, therefore he was often misjudged by some and was most dearly loved by those who knew him best. To his loved ones he left a convincing testimony of his faith in God, his comfort in Christ's grace and his hope of eternal glory.
His funeral was conducted from his late residence by Rev N C Cochran, who spoke briefly of his life and beautifully of his hope for the future. The choir sang "Rock of Ages" "Abide With Me", and "Nearer My God to Thee." At the close of this service the IOOF took charge and conducted the remainder of the funeral. The lavish and beautiful floral display and the large number of staunch citizens and neighbors gathered about his grave bore testimony of the high esteen and honor in which he was held.

      Baker

The first settler of whom I have any account at the mouth of Fallen Timber and Rush Run after Hartley and his daughter, was Elijah Baker. He was born in 1815, and died February 12, 1896, aged eighty years. He was a son of John Baker, who lived below the mouth of Conrad's Run, on Reedy. He married Nancy Wolfe. A daughter of James Wolfe, who settled at the mouth of Elk Fork, on Mill Creek, soon after she was born.

Nancy Baker was born in 1815, and died June 30, 1902, at the age of eighty seven years.

Baker settled here many years ago. He kept a country store at the mouth of Rush Run several years, and was the first Postmaster at Leroy. When I first knew the country, he lived on the hill above the road, where Mike Tatterson now resides. He was a strong Union man, and had a child killed about the beginning of the war.

      Wolf family:
Nancy Wolfe married Elijah Baker, of Reedy, and lived at Leroy, on Sandy. Their children were Dal Baker, who married a Johnson, Frank who married Alice Stout, and America, who married John Spencer.
