Helen D Briggs Died Last Night in Hospital Here
Funeral is Set for 2 Wednesday at Cheshire Church
Miss Helen Dorothy Briggs, youngest of the three children of David W and Carrie Rupe Briggs of near Cheshire, died at 11:30 Saturday night at the Holzer Hospital.
Miss Briggs was operated the previous Sunday for acute appendicitis and though her condition thereafter was reported to be only "fair" it was thought that she was slightly improved on Saturday. Hence the news of her passing came as a shock to all who are acquainted with this well known family.
At the Courthouse surprise and regret were expressed because the decedent's sister, Miss Beatrice Briggs is clerk of the Gallia County Board of Elections and has been busy as such preparing for Tuesday's election. (Co-clerk Wanda Withers Parsons said this morning she thought she would be able to handle the work through primany day and night; but if necessary, expert assistance will be available, it was thought.)
Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm Wed, at the Cheshire Baptist Church, of which decedent was a member, with Rev JE Hakes of this city in charge. Interment will be in the Gravel Hill cemetery by JL Coleman and son.
Surviving besides the parents and sister is one brother Merrill D Briggs.
Miss Briggs was born Feb 5, 1922. She was graduated from the Cheshire High School in 1940, and has been active in church circles and attentive to home duties and was highly esteemed throughout her native community and adjoining communities.
Obituary
Helen Dorothy Briggs
It is difficult to attempt to say in weak human words how the passing of a fair and radiant young life has cast a gloom over the entire community that knew and loved this one, that has gone from us so suddenly.
Helen Dorothy, beloved daughter and youngest child of David and Carrie Rupe Briggs was born 24 years ago near Cheshire, and passed away on May 5 at Holzer Hospital after a very short illness of one week. She leaves her parents, a sister Beatrice, a brother Merrill and a small nephew to whom she was intensely devoted. She also leaves her fiance, Neal Harrison to whom her early marriage was arranged, together with a host of relatives and friends to mourn her departure.
She was a graduate of Cheshire High School, class of 1940, a faithful worker of Cheshire Baptist Church, a fine Christian character in every sense of the word.
