      HOUCHEN Charles Houchen, age 83, born October 24, 1927, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011 in Las Vegas at the home of his daughter, with his wife of 64 years at his side. He is survived by the love of his life, Mary Lue; sons, Rick (Betsy) of Canal Winchester, Mike (Mary Lee) of Lancaster; daughters, Debbie (Cindy) of Las Vegas and Tammy of Millersport; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents Charles and Madelyn and brother Edgar. Charles graduated from Marshall University in West Virginia and came to Reynoldsburg to teach, retiring from Columbus Public Schools after 27 years of service. He accumulated many fond memories of students who excelled in some parts of their lives. Charles was born near Ripley, West Virginia and maintained a lifelong affection for Joe's Run and the surrounding area and people. Charles was a Marine Corps Veteran with the China Service in the 4th Marines. Poetry was a hobby. He described himself as "one of the best of the bad poets" and his poetry appeared in multiple publications. Masonry was a large part of Charlie's life. He was a KYCH from Whitehall Lodge #761 F&AM, York Chapter, Columbus Counsel and Mt. Vernon Commandry. He was a 40+ year member and Sunday School teacher at Eastview United Methodist Church in Whitehall. Friends may call Friday 4-7 p.m. EVANS FUNERAL HOME, 4171 E. Livingston Ave. Funeral service Saturday 10 a.m., Eastview United Methodist Church, 1045 Ross Rd. Interment Franklin Hills Memory Gardens.
