  Notes	Loftus was a pioneer settler in what is now Highland Co., Virginia. He settled in 1745 and the next year he built a cabin by a spring overlooking the Bull Pasture River. In 1750 He married Ann Jane Usher and they had eight children. His farm grew until it finally included over 800 acres. He was one of the largest slave owners in the area and an Indian fighter. He also served in the French and Indian war in 1763 with Capt. William Prestons Company of Rangers. For his service King George II of England gave him about 200 acres of bounty land.
