W. Mc Dade 8/27/1935 Triplet W. VA -- This community was greatly shocked Sunday evening to learn of the tragic death of John W. McDade. The family on returning from an all day service at the Slate Church, found a note pinned on the door. "Look in the barn and ou may find daddy" the note was unsigned. The body was found by his brother-in-law Russell Craig and his son-in-law Hubert Pursley, dead, shot through the heart. Before moving the body, they called Dr. Stewart who was County Coroner. After his investigation, it was decided that he had shot himself and no inquest was held. The remains were prepared for burial by the Vandale Undertakers and on Tuesday funeral services were conducted at the Little Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Strickland. Mr. McDade was born in Mason County April 2, 1866. He was a son of the late Alexander McDade. When a young man he moved to Roane County and resided most of his life in the vicinity of Triplett. He was converted early in life. He was united in marriage to Lottie Craig Jan 1, 1896. She died in Jan 1932. Four children were born to this union. William and Craig who died several years ago. Mrs. Ruby Pursley who died a few weeks ago and Blanche, the only surviving member of the family. Three grandchildren Dessie, Faye and Cora Alice Pursley, a niece, Mrs. Belle McDade resides in Mason County. Two sister, Mrs. Martha Knuckley and Mrs. Boothe of Mason County preceded him in death. He was a cousin of Jas, Robt, Samuel and Isaac Greathouse who formerly lived in and near Spencer.
