      Duff, Ray
Ray Duff, about 20 years of age, of Romance, was killed at Amma, Roane County, on Friday when a truck in which he was riding plunged into a ditch along the highway, throwing the young man from the vehicle and he landed on his head. The funeral service was held at the Pleasant View Church at Romance on Sunday afternoon with the Rev Warren Anderson officiating and burial was in the Duff Cemetery. The young man is survived by his father, Samuel Duff of Romance; four brothers; Oren Duff of Charleston, Otmer Duff of Romance, Delmer Duff of RFD 5, Charleston, and Marvin Duff of Romance; three sisters, Mrs. Nellie Good of Kenna, Mrs Goldie Lanham of Charleston and Miss Ruby Duff, at home, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. G H Godbey, also of Romance. Sgt. Dan Carson of hte Spencer Detachment of hte State Police who investigated the accident, said that Duff and Wendell Reynolds, 21, of Kenna, were riding atop two gasoline drums on the bed of the truck. The road was narrow and Howard Fisher, of Kenna, driver of the truck, was forced to drive off the road so that his right wheels were in a ditch in order to pass an on coming car. The truck continued in the ditch as the driver looked for a suitable place where he might get back into the road. The truck struck a hole approximately two feet deep and in the movement of the vehicle Duff was thrown off. He struck the ground on his head and later died. Neither of the other two men were injured nor was the truck damamged. Sgt. Carson said all the men were working on a timber job and were returning home at the time of the accident.
