Anna E Coughenour, the daughter of David and Rachel Coughenour, was born near Old Kyger church, Cheshire township, on June 24, 1857 and died November 18, 1928, aged 71 years, 4 months, 24days.
She was one of a family of eleven children. The two brothers, JM of Cheshire and AA of Vinton, together with two sisters, Mrs JL Butcher of Cheshire and Mrs Jl Miller of Rio Grande, survive.
The deceased was baptised in her early life by Rev J W Fulton at Old Kyger church, becoming a member of that church. She later transferred her membership to Cheshire Baptist church where she has been an active and devoted member.
Anne E Coughenour was united in marriage to George H Briggs on Novenber 21, 1883. To this union was born two children, Mrs Garnet Kirby who is at home and David W Briggs of Cheshire. Besides the bereaved companion and children, four grandchildren , Briggs Kirby, Merrill, Beatrice, and Helen Dorothy Briggs are left to mourn their loss. Several nephews, neices and many other relatives and friends feel the loss of one whose obituary has just been lived in the community shere her entire life was spent.
Mrs Briggs was a charter member of the Little Kyger Grange, the Baptist Missionary Society and the WCTU.
Mrs Anna Briggs Dead
Mrs Anna Coughenour Briggs wife of Mr George Briggs of Cheshire, died Sunday, Nov 18, 1828, in the Holzer hospital where she had been critically ill for several weeks.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Baptist church in Cheshire, interment following in Gravel Hill cemetery. Mrs Briggs leaves her husband, a daughter, Mrs Garnet Kirby, a son, David Briggs of Cheshire, two sisters, Mrs JL Miller of Rio Grande and Mrs JL Butcher of Cheshire, adn brothers Mel of Cheshire and AH of Vinton.

David Coughenour died at his home near Cheshire, Saturday, April 14, 1900. He was born in Augusta County, Va, Aug. 6, 1820. He came to Gallia Co. with his parents in 1830 and settled in Cheshire township,where he has always lived. He married Rachel McCarty in 1843. They were the parents of eleven children, two sons and nine daughters, all save two daughters surviving him. He had held,
membership with the First Kyger F.W.B. Church since 1841. He was a man of great worth to the church and community. His funeral was held Monday morning at the church, services conducted by Rev. W.J. Fulton of Rio Grande, which was largely attended.
