    • OBITUARY
Departed this life, on the 23d day of June, 1856, Robert Simpson, of Scipio
township, Meigs county, Ohio; in the 82nd year of his age.

After enduring with Christian patience and fortitude, a painful illness for
many months, he left his aged companion and a numerous family of children and
grand children to mourn their loss.

The deceased had been a professor of the Christian religion, for nearly a

half a century; and his neighbors and friends can bare him wit-witness, that he
lived the life of a Christian.

The deceased was born on the 12th of February, 1775, at Nottingham, New

Hampshire, where he lived until he emigrated to the (province) now State of
Maine, in the year 1800. In 1802 he married Lydia Longfellow, and settled in the
county of Penobscot, Maine where he resided until he removed to the county of
Meigs, Ohio - - the place of his decease, in the summer or fall of 1817 in
the company with his older brother, who had explored the wilds of Ohio, in the
year 1787-8, in the company with the army commanded by Gen. Harmer. Blessed
are the dead who die in the Lord - - their works do follow them.
