Norman Chauncey Slaughter
Norman Chauncey Slaughter, 88, of Ripley died Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Jackson General Hospital after a 13-year illness of strokes and Parkinson's.
Norman was a lifelong native of Jackson County and was born July 22, 1921, to Elmer and Dollie Chancey Slaughter.
Norman was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. He served in Europe during World War II and was a lifelong member of Ripley VFW.
He had been active in the oil and gas industry and was a past president of the West Virginia Oil and Gas Association. In his early life, he was a member of Ripley City Council, Volunteer Fire Department, Ripley Lions Club, and a charter member of Green Hills Country Club.
He loved his home, his golfing foursome, and the deer and wildlife around his home.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Dollie Slaughter; and a niece, Janna Ramos.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kathryn Ong Slaughter; one son, Gregory (Dianne) Slaughter of Ripley; one granddaughter, Shawn Slaughter Taylor of Charleston; two great-grandchildren, Cayla and Marcus Taylor of Charleston; one sister, Mae Siegler of Ravenswood; and numerous nieces; nephews; and cousins.
The body will be cremated and there will be no visitation. A family graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley, with the Rev. Terri Deane and John Gunther officiating.
