      Ashtabula, OH -
      E. Carol (Knopp) Rhodes, 66, died Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Ashtabula County Medical Center surrounded by her loving family, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Gay, WV, on December 26, 1943, the daughter of Okey J. and Edna Bernice (Waybright) Knopp and was a graduate of Ripley High School.

Carol worked for True Temper and then Ashtabula County Nursing Home where she retired from in 2004, having worked there for twenty-six years. She will be remembered for her love of family and friends. J.C. Penny’s was her favorite place to shop. She enjoyed collecting beanie babies with her granddaughter Danielle, reading murder mysteries, and collecting eagle and wolf figurines. She was known for her potato salad, which everyone enjoyed. Carol had a servants’ heart. Even after retiring from Ashtabula County Nursing Home, Carol continued to help loved ones in need and that care will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sons, Gary Rhodes of Ashtabula and Greg (Teresa) Rhodes of Sissonville, WV; grandchildren Danielle (Jacobb) Semple of Stuttgart, Germany, and Travis, Hannah, and Abigail Rhodes, all of Sissonville; siblings Kathleen (Jim) Corbitt of Racine, OH, Dwight (Gladys) Knopp of Gay, Paulette (Glen) Cole of South Charleston, OH, and Paul (Doreen) Knopp of Gay; her mother, Edna Bernice Knopp, of South Charleston, OH; several nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Okey J. Knopp; sisters Edra Eva and Edna Jean Knopp, both in infancy; and daughter-in-law Sheila (Dawson) Rhodes.

It was Carol’s wishes that she be laid to rest back home in West Virginia where a private family graveside service will be held.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Activity Fund of the Ashtabula County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Ducro Funeral Service and Crematory, 4524 Elm Avenue, Ashtabula, is in charge of arrangements, www.ducro.com.
