Mazie F. Durst, 103, of Point Pleasant, went home to be with her Lord and other family members on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, with her loving daughter and family at her side.
She was born December 4, 1906 in Jackson County, a Daughter to the late Joseph and Iva Wheeler Flowers.
She was an former secretary for the Simmons Candy Co. in Point Pleasant, and one of the founders of the Medical Record Department at Pleasant Valley Hospital in 1959, where she retired in 1972. She also was a former secretary for Farm Credit of Mason County and a the Mason County Board of Education. Mazie additionally worked for the Foster Grandparents for the Mason County Schools.
She was a long standing member of the Heights United Methodist Church. There, she was one of the oldest members on record, and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. She also was a charter member of the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Dana A. Durst, who died December 12, 1973; and one granddaughter, Shana Swann Jeffers. She was the only surviving sibling of her three siblings, Gus, Marie and Ruby.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Smith, whom she lived with and who took special care of her; one son, Dana C. Durst and his wife; grandchildren, Carol Miller, Chris Swann, Julie Taylor, Ronnie Smith and Keith Durst; great grandchildren, Cody Swann, J.W. Miller Amanda Smith, Jackie Lyons, Jeremy Swann, Michael Taylor, Joshua Miller, Anthony Jeffers and Meghan Swann; great great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Michael Taylor and Seth Lyons.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday. May 29, at the Deal Funeral Home of Point Pleasant with Pastor Janice Smith and Pastor Joe Nott officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
