Notes	World War II - SSgt The Jackson Herald With the 95^th Infantry Division: Cpl. Everett R. Rhodes, husband of Mrs. Lily Ruth Rhodes of Gay, WV, has been awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement in connection with military operations against the enemy during the 95^th (Victory) Division’s hard fighting at it’s bridgeheads across the Sarr River from Saarlautern. Cpl. Rhodes is a member of the Co. “L” 378^th Infantry Regiment. Upon learning that the bodies of three comrades, killed by enemy fire, had not been recovered, Rhodes volunteered to search for them on the river bank. Conducting an exhausting search under the violent artillery and mortar fire continuously pounding the area, Rhodes finally succeeded in locating the dead men and personally carried them across the river to the collecting point. Previous to military service, Cpl. Rhodes was employed as a bus driver. He entered the Army on July 4, 1942, (Friday, Apr. 13, 1945). Everette Robert Rhodes - Charleston Gazette RIPLEY - Everette Robert Rhodes, 83, of Ripley died Dec. 17, 1997, in Jackson General Hospital after a long illness. He was a retired Jackson County school bus driver, a retired Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a Bronze Star recipient. Surviving: wife, Lily Ruth Hart Rhodes; sons, Everette Rhodes Jr. and Daniel Hart Rhodes, both of Ripley; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, with the Rev. Wesley Knopp officiating. Burial will be in Lowther Cemetery, Frozen Camp. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
