Dana E. Whited - Parkersburg News - (Nov/20/2009)
Dana E. Whited, 76, of Ripley, surrounded by his family, was surrendered into God's tender loving care on Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at CAMC General Division after complications following a short illness.
Born on Feb. 22, 1933 in Belgrove, W.Va., he was the son of the late James M. and Oshel (Casto) Whited. He was preceded in death by brothers, Delbert Whited, Herbert Whited; and sisters, Ruby Rardon and Mary Whited; and brothers-in-law, Hubert Rardon, Earl McCallister, Darrell Casto; and sister-in-law, Kay Whited.
He was employed by Kaiser Aluminum and retired from Pechiney Aluminum after 42 years of service; he held many jobs during his careet from tool repair to operating a profile cutter that manufactured parts for the NASA space shuttle. He was a member of the United Steel Workers of America Local 5668.
He was a man of many talents including welding and steel fabrication, auto mechanic, carpentry and gardening. He was always eager to use his talents to help his family, friends and neighbors when needed with a cheerful smile and a fun sense of humor. He attended the Grace Gospel Baptist Church in Ripley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Vivian Orthalee (Anderson) Whited and sons, Dana E. Whited, Jr. of Ripley, David W. Whited and his wife, Jill, of Fairplain; and Dale L. Whited and his wife, Judy, of Ripley; granddaughters, Danielle B. Whited and Holley L. Whited; grandsons, Kirby A. Whited and his wife April; and Aaron L. Whited and his wife, Kaci; great-grandchildren, Jordan A. Whited and Layna A. Whited; sisters, Ruth McCallister of Dunbar, Goldie Starcher and husband, Clyde, of South Charleston, Myrtle Casto of Ripley, and Anna Randolph and husband Basil, of Ripley.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, 1 p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, with Pastor Shannon Skeen officiating. Entombment will follow at the Jackson County Memory Gardens in Cottageville. Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. today at the funeral home. A fellowship dinner will be held at Grace Gospel Baptist Church, Ripley, following the entombment service.
