17 Oct 1808, John Critz with his brother, Abraham, purchased 100 acres, east side of Buchannon River, Harrison co, WV from John and Elizabeth Jackson. The tract adjoined lands of Abraham Post (brother of Crites wives) and John Strader.

1815, had 2 horses and 9 cattle.
30 Aug 1817 sold interest in 100 Acres (then in Lewis Co, now in Upshur) to Abram and Susanna Crites for $250 and moved to Mason Co. 26 Mar 1818 thru 1831, John assessed regularly in Mason Co, in 1829 he had 7 horses.
1820 and 1830 Mason co census, mother-in-law apparently the older female living with.
1824, received a land grant of 165 a on Big Mill Creek in Mason Co, in 1826, received 2 land grants of 100 a each on Moses Fork and Mill Creek, Mason co, 1827, received land grant of 100 a on Mill Creek, Mason Co, 1831, when Jackson Co was formed this land was all in JC most within 6 miles south or SE of the JC courthouse, assesses there in 1832.

John Crites, Will
In the name of God, I, John Crites of Jackson County & State of Virginia being induced from various reasons to believe that my malual [natural?] existance is drawing to close
But being of sound mind & disposetings [? smeared] memory & being desirous of disposeing of such world affects as it has pleased providence to bless me with I hereby make a distribution & will thereof as follows to wit
1st I will and require that my funeral expences the expence of administering on my estate by recording this my last will (&e) & paying my just debts be immediately paid out of any monies on hand or any debts due me at my decease & if there should not be enough of said money & debts for the purpose aforesaid then the ballance shall be made out of such of my personal property as the person or persons that adminsters on my estate see fit to use for that purpose.
2nd I give to my beloved wife, Clory, all my personal estate that shall be left after the payments are made as first above stated except such personal estate as shall be herein after given appopriated or bequeathed.
3rd I appropriate all my famrming utensils waggon & various toolls to be kept on my homeplace to be used by my wife Clory & my son-in-law Abraham Casto or either of them that may occupy the said place which appropriation to contiunue during my wifes life time & at her death she is to dispose of them as she pleases and in the event that boath of the said parties shall leave said place then my wife is to have the said porperty to do with as she may think proper
Fourthly
I give to my wife Clory during her natural life one third of my home plantation which is the plantation I now occupy and live on which third is to be taken off of the lower side to commence at at my son Abrahams & to run across the entire survey or tract of land from end to end that is from Isaac Crites across towards the Parchment waters which parcel of land at the death of my wife Clory I give to my daughter Rebecca Casto
Fifthly
I give all the ballance of my home farm to my daughter Rebecca Casto that is all the land & from Jonathan Castoes to the land now given & set apart to my wife & from Isaac Crites & Martin Crites to what is caled the Delinquant line nexct towards the Parchment fork waters which boundaries must include the delinquent land I purchased laying between my old home farm & the Parchment forks
Sixthly
I give all the land I own that is caled the Delinquent land lying beyond & back of Isaac & Martin Crites from where I now live except about 15 acres of the same contracted to my son Isaac & 15 acres of the same contracted to my son Martin & 15 acres contracted to my son-in-law Henry Couns & one hundred acres contracted to John Redman which said pieces of land my wife Clory shall if requested make and execute deeds for to my three daughters Elizabeth Wolf, Barbary Fisher & Catharine Fisher to be equally devided among them according to quantity & quality & if they cannot agree upon a division of the said land then in that event my wife Clory shall chose three men & divide the same which division of said men shall be a final settlement of the same between my said three daughters.
Seventhly & Lastly
I appoint my wife Clory Executrix of this my last will & testament hereby revokeing all other wills or testaments by me heretofore made.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand & seal this feth day of February in the year 1847

At a County Count of Law held for Jackson county at the courthouse thereof on the 22nd day of February 1847
The last will and Testament of John Crites deceased was proved by the oaths of Benjamin Wright & Jonathan Casto witnesses thereto and thereupon for reason appearing to the Court the motion to admit said will to record is continued until tomorrow morning.

At a County Court of Law held for Jackson County at the Courthouse thereof on Friday the 12th day of March 1847. It was considered by the Court that the written will be recorded as and for the last will and Testament of John Crited Deceased upon the proof and testemony heretofore had in the cause and that the Plafft in said motion recover against the debts their costs in and about their motion in this behalf expressed

At a County Court of Law held for Jackson County at the Courthouse thereof on Monday the 26th day of April 1947
Clory Crites the executrix named in the last will and testament of John Crites dec' this day appeared in Court and made oath to said will according to law and together with Isaac Pfost & Jonathan Casto her securities entered into an acknowledged a bond in the penalty of $500.00 with condition according to Law certificate is granted the said Clorey Crites for obtaining a probate of said will in due form
