Wendell Lee Counts, 76, of Belpre died May 7, 2006, at the Louis A. Johnson VA Center, Clarksburg, W.Va., after a short battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 17, 1930, in Kenna, W.Va., a son of the late Earl and Bernice Counts Roberts. He was retired as a truck driver having been an owner, operator and member of the Parkersburg local teamsters. He was a U.S. Army and Navy veteran having served seven years before his honorable discharge in 1955. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 15, DAV Local 6, AMVETS and Fraternal of the Eagles 2307. He also loved music, was an avid horse enthusiast and sportsman.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marjorie Ann Counts; three sons, Randy Counts of Belpre, Eric Counts of Belpre, Kyle Counts and wife, Dee, of Coolville; six grandchildren, Erica Counts, Cortney Herrick, Shaya Sealy, Wendy Heater, Erin Newsom, Kole Counts; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Gary Roberts of Raleigh, N.C.; two sisters, Karen Mumpower of Augusta, Ga., and Theda Coker of Walterboro, S.C.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Ronnie Roberts and his favorite uncle, Thomas Counts.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
