| 1904 | "Calhoun Chronicle" - 10 August 2000 (reprint from August 1977) ALBERT STARCHER Albert J. Starcher, 76, of Mt. Zion, died Aug. 10, 1977, in Calhoun General Hospital. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Hanson and Sarah Starcher. He retired from Consolidated Natural Gas Co. with 53 years of service and was a member of Knights of Pythias Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Della Gibson Starcher; one daughter, Mildren Atkinson of Seth; five sons, Bruce of Uneeda, Boyd of Seth and Bethel, Berthel and Bobbie, all of Mt. Zion; three sisters, Bertie Sovil and Bertha Starcher, both of Mt. Zion, and Grace O'Brien of Spencer; two brothers, Isaac Starcher of New Comerstown, Ohio, and Harley Starcher of Toledo, Ohio; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Services were held at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, Hur, with Rev. Efford Epling officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Graveside services were conducted by Knights of Pythias. She was born in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late George and Hannah Kerby Gibson. She was a member of Cremo Community Church. Surviving are five sons, Bruce Starcher of Uneda, Boyd Starcher of Seth and Bethel, Berthel and Bobbie Starcher, all of New Comerstown, Ohio; two brothers, Harley Gibson of New Comerstown and Clifford Gibson of Mt. Zion; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert J. Starcher, in 1977. Services were held at Cremo Community Church, near Mt. Zion. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Hanson and Sara Starcher. He had lived in Ohio for the past 22 years. Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Greathouse Starcher; two sons, Gary and Lary, and one daughter, Cinda Starcher, all at home; four brothers, Albert Starcher of Cremo, Alva Starcher of Hudson, Ohio, Isaac Starcher of Cuyahoga Falls and Harley Starcher of Toledo, Ohio; and five sisters, Berta Sovil of Cuyahoga Falls, Lennie Miller of Stow, Della Starcher of Barberton, Ohio, Grace O'brien of Spencer and Bertha Starcher of Mt. He was born in Calhoun County, the son of the late Albert and Della Gibson Starcher. He was retired from Consolidated Natural Gas Co., and was a member of Knights of Pythias Lodge, Cremo, and was a Methodist. Surviving are two brothers, Bobby Starcher of Mt. Zion and Bruce Starcher of Madison. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Berthel and Bethel Starcher, and one sister, Mildred Atkinson. He was the son of the late Isaac and Margaret Booher Starcher. A resident of Calhoun County during most of his life, he was a member of Cremo Baptist Church and Knights of Pythias Lodge. Surviving are five sons, Albert Starcher of Cremo, Alva Starcher of Hudson, Ohio, Isaac Starcher of New Comerstown, Ohio, Charley Starcher of Cuyahoga Falls and Harley Starcher of Toledo, Ohio; five daughters, Bertie Sovil and Lena Miller, both of Cuyahoga Falls, Della Starcher of Barberton, Ohio, Bertha Starcher of Cremo and Grace O'Brien of Spencer; one brother, Charley Starcher of Hur; one sister, Dora Keller of Hartlane; 47 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. | 1919 | "Families of Gallia County" Elisabeth is believed to be the daughter of Johannes Reitenauer and Elisabeth Herb, emigrants from the Palatinate. Settled in 1760 on the west side of the North branch of the Shenandoah River. Lutheran communicants who came into the Peind Kirch (Pine Church) to the holy evening meal when the Rev Paul Henkel (Hinkle) was pastor at New Market. Both George and wife made wills which are found in Will Books E & P in Shenandoah County, VA. Both mention all their children and spouses. George Adam left over 700 acres of land to his 3 sons as well as land to his daughters in addition to L25 each to his 5 youngest daughters to make them equal with the 2 eldest who had received money earlier. GA could write, his wife could not. Daughters married members of the Kipps, Meek, McCarty, Olinger, Hinkel, Houdeshall and Rup families. | Family F469

| 1922 | "From the Rhine to the Shenandoah" Christian was listed in a Mennonite census list in 1724 as a miller at Otterbery By 1738, the Mennonites included the "Widow Beutler" and her son Jacob. In 1743, Jacob's family included his wife, 2 daughters and his "old mother", by 1753, his mother was deceased. The children of Christian Beutler have been tentatively identified by piecing together the follings facts: Peter Beutler married Catherina Brenneman at Enkenbach, near Otterbery in 1729. Christian Beutler, 24 with wife Susanna amd an Elizabeth Beutler, age 22, arrived in Philadelphia in 1832 and on 4/4/1873, Peter, Christian and Ulrich Beydler, all of Phil. | 1925 | "From the Rhine to the Shenandoah" Peter and Verena are listed in the records as residents of Buchholterberg, a group of farms in the mountain valley southeast of Oberdiessbach. The Anabaptist movement was especially strong in this area of Bern and seemed to Flourish especially in the remote valleys such as Buchholterberg. Peter and verena are not listed among those expelled in the early 18th century but in all likelihood this is what happened since there is no further record of them or thier children at Oberdiessbach. | 1934 | "Hardesty's . . . 1883" Charles T. COAST- was born in Belmont county, Ohio, September 29, 1850. When he was three years of age his parents, John and Eleanor (Furguson) Coast, bringing him with them, became residents in Jackson county, and this country has ever since been his home. At the date of their settlement here, the town of Ravenswood contained but one log cabin, and the county-seat, Ripley, consisted of two dwellings and the jail. In Ravenswood district, near Silverton, Jackson county, then in Virginia, September 29, 1855, was born Adelia F., daughter of John and Martha G. (Mahan) Rawling, who settled in this county in 1833. December 3, 1874, at the bride's residence, the words were spoken joining the lives of Charles T. Coast and Adelia F. Rawling, and in the home their mariage established are two children: Nellie, born December 15, 1876, and Daisie, born September 21, 1880. Death has taken from them: Martha E., born June 15, 1875, died July 22, 1876; and Johnnie, born December 14, 1877, died November 27,1880. To the calling of a farmer, Mr. Coast adds the profession of teaching, in which he has successfully engaged for a number of terms. | 1935 | "Hardesty's . . . 1883": James M. CHEUVRONT - is a son of Isaac and Catherine (Childers) Cheuvront, who became residents in Jackson county in 1839. In this county he was born June 17, 1848, and here his wedded life began, February 22, 1874. On that day Bedelia Archer became his life's partner, and in the years that have ensued their home has witnessed five births and two deaths. Their first child was born March 4, 1875, and died April 6, 1875; Amy E., was born September 18, 1876, and she died December 1, 1876. The three younger children are: Harvey O., born October 14, 1877; Ara Ann, July 22, 1880; Raymond A., April 17, 1882. Jacob and Elizabeth (Sadler) Archer, who settled in Jackson county in 1873, are the parents of Bedelia, wife of Mr. Cheuvront, but she was born in Noble county, Ohio, February 2, 1856. During the war between the States, James M. Cheuvront was a member of Company F, 4th Virginia Cavalry, enlisting in July, 1863, and receiving discharge in March, 1864. In February, 1865, he enlisted again in Company F, 7th Virginia Cavalry, serving until August, 1865. | 1937 | "History of First Settlers of Cow Run" by W.M. King: In the late 1898's Susan A. King learned The Photography Profession. For a short time she had a room fixed up in her Father's home. Then later had a studio in Ripley. She was the only Photographer in Ripley. Later she went to her Father's home to take care of her Father and Mother. After the death of her parents, sometimes she would spend a winter with some of her relatives. She spent one winter with my wife and I. But later she stayed with her nephew and family on the home farm until she died, January 7, 1936, seventy-two years and eleven months, ten days old. She was buried on the farm by the side of her parents. Funeral service conducted by her cousin, Ben King. A wonderful daughter and friend has gone home. Was living in Harrison county in 1795 when his daughter, Ann, married Jacob Starcher. Was residing in Hampshire county in 1782, 6 people in family; had removed to Harrison county by 1784. In 1810 Mason county census, he was aged 45+, and there were 5 males and 2 females in his family; in 1820 there were also 5 males and 2 females. He was born in New Jersey in 1750 and died at Evans, Jackson county in 1826, from the effects of wounds given him by a bear. An article in the Jackson Herald by a descendant, Mrs Corinne (Staats) Fisher, of Ripley, states that he was a soldier in the Revolution. His wife was Anna King and their children were: Cornelius, Abraham Jr, Elijah, Jacob, Anna, Catherine, Susana, Sarah, and Rebecca. Anna King Staats died in 1811 and Abraham married Sarah Tilghman, by whom he had the following children: Hannah, William and John. | 1941 | "Jackson County in the Wars" War of 1812 In the summer of 1813, a body of Mason County troops under Capt. William Lowther Parsons, who then lived on Scyamore Creek near present Ripley, crossed the Alleghenies and served for a time at Norfolk, VA, They were mustered out in 1814. Known men from present Jackson County who served with Capt. Parsons' Company in the 6th VA Regiment were:. . . Cornelius Staats, who was either killed in action or died of other causes at this time Sidney Casto William Lowther "Captain Billy" Parsons, son of Charles Sr and Elizabeth (Chestnut) Parsons, was born in Quen Anne's County, Maryland, and died at Frozen Camp, Jackson County, (July 24, 1765-Oct 10, 1839). He married (1) Susan, daughter of Henry Fink, 1786, and they had 8 children, 7 of whom lived to maturity and an infant who died with his mother on Sycamore Creek, near Ripley in 1807, and was interred with her in the present old Ripley graveyard. "Captain Billy" married (2) Elizabeth Nancy Walker, and by this marriage there were 9 children, making a total of 17 in all. He is interred in the Frozen Camp Cemetery. | Family F895

John House, "Burying Grounds": Moses Doolittle was born in Morgantown in May, 1802 and died at Ripley, July 2, 1877, aged seventy-five years one month. Susan Seaman Doolittle, his wife was born May 3, 1801, in Monongalia County. She was the daughter of David and Elizabeth (Bord) Seaman and they lived a while on Reedy and at a later date on Mill Creek, at what is known as the old Wiblin Place. | 1950 | "Our Meador Families in Colonial America" by Victor P Meador & Bernal M Meador: John Meador came into ownership of 2 grants of land on the south side of Hoskins Creek, one for 320 acres and the other for 450 acres. John divided the 450 acre grant among the children of his first wife, Elizabeth White, and portions were divided among the children of his second wife through the terms of John's will. A descendant, William Meador, in a deed in 1728 and another in 1734, continued the lineage from his great grandfather, Thomas through John, Richard and himself, making the descent of the property and the lineage involved unquestionable. The genealogy of the Meador family from Thomas Sr is thus established to that point. After Elizabeth died, and before John married a second time, he made a deed of gift on 10 Dec 1695, dividing the bulk of his property among his children. These lands were "never to be sold or disposed of but to remaine from heir to heir as long as there can be one of ye Meadors found alive." Didn't happen. The book does not name his second wife, but his will does name his other children: Mary and Jonas. His final will gives one shilling to his living children by Elizabeth: Thomas, Rachell Jordan, Elizabeth Armstrong, Dinah Tribille and states his "five sons shall keep their own guns without appraising." | MEADOWS, John Sr (I6133)
